MAJ GEN (Dr) Obashina OGUNBIYI, FMCA, FWACS, mni
Maj Gen (Dr) Obashina Ogunbiyi, mni, attended the University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he graduated with MB;BS in June, 1982. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Army as a 2Lt in May 1980 and rose to become a Maj Gen in 2012. He also became the Corps Commander of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps in 2014 before retiring voluntarily from service in Dec 2015. He is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCA-1995) and the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in the Faculty of Anaesthesia. He further trained in the UK (1997-1999), working at the Royal Hospital, London, Harrogate District Hospital and Royal Infirmary, Sheffield, among others. He had his Post-Fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine at the James Paget University Hospital, Gt. Yarmouth, UK, in 2005. He is an invited speaker locally and internationally and an avid author of over 40 published scientific articles in local and international peer-reviewed journals and Conference Proceedings. Gen Ogunbiyi was an Associate Professor of Anaesthesia at the Kaduna State University (2014-2017) and is a member of the Court of Examiners of both the NPMCN and the WACS from 2001 till date. He has trained and supervised the Fellowship Dissertations of 10 Consultant Anaesthetists, one of whom is now a Professor of Anaesthesia in one of the Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria. Gen Ogunbiyi is a Member of the National Institute (mni, Kuru) and was a Member of the Governing Board of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria from 2009 – 2015. Dr. Ogunbiyi is an alumnus of the University of Washington where he was awarded a Certificate in Leadership and Management in Healthcare (2017). He is also an alumnus of the prestigious Galilee International Management Institute, Israel, where he recently bagged a Diploma in Health Systems Management (2019). He is presently the President of the Critical Care Society of Nigeria (CCSN) and also a Member of Council of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM 2017-2021). His special area of professional interest is “Safety and Quality In Anaesthesia and ICU”.
