Dr Ashleigh E Butler is a Research Associate at the Louis Dundas Centre for Children’s Palliative Care at the University College London/Great Ormond Street Institute for Child Health, and a registered nurse in both Australia and the United Kingdom.
She began her career as a nurse in the adult and paediatric intensive care unit at Monash Medical Centre before completing her PhD at Monash University on the ways in which parent-staff relationships develop and change across a child’s illness and death in the PICU. After her PhD, Ashleigh moved to London to work as a Research Fellow at the Louis Dundas Centre for Children’s Palliative Care. Here, her work has focused on exploring the provision of palliative care for children with complex cardiac conditions, and improving research access for children with life limiting conditions and life threatening illnesses and their families. Her research interests and ongoing work focuses on end-of-life care and bereavement follow-up for children and their families in the PICU, supporting family involvement in care, and decision making for children with life limiting conditions and life threatening illnesses and their families.
