Prof. Arzu Topeli, MD, MSc (Epid.) is currently the Chair of Department of Internal Medicine and Division of Intensive Care Medicine in Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey. She has been in the council of WFSICCM since 2013, which will end in October 2019 (the last 2 years as the treasurer). She was the founder president of Turkish Society of Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Medicine which will be hosting the 16th World Intensive Care Congress in Istanbul in 2023. She is the editor of Journal of Medical and Surgical Intensive Care. She will be serving as the deputy chair of Health Services Research and Outcome Section of ESICM starting from October 2019. She obtained her MD degree from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Ankara-Turkey in 1991. She completed her internal medicine training (primary specialty) in the same faculty in 1996 and did post-doctoral fellowship (1996-1998) in Loyola University at Chicago, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (director Martin J. Tobin). She has BSc degree in hospital administration and MSc degree in epidemiology. Her main interests are ICU organisation, staffing; quality of care; rapid response system; intensive care epidemiology and outcome studies; intensive care infections; acute respiratory failure.
