Dr Tom Buckley has been a registered nurse since 1991 and has been in senior nursing positions in the UK, USA and Australia in specialties such as nephrology, intensive care and acute cardiology. Tom is currently a member of the critical care teaching and research team Sydney Nursing School as well as Academic Leader (Research Education) within the Faculty of Health and Medicine, University of Sydney. Tom’s primary clinical research is in the impact of acute life stressors on psychological, behavioural and physiological cardiovascular risk factors. His work on spousal and parental bereavement and episodes of acute anger has been widely published and internationally recognised. Tom is also an active researcher on nurse practitioner scope of practice, has led in the development of several policy initiatives related to advanced practice and is current Chair of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council Nurse Practitioner Accreditation Committee as well as Chair of the Australian Government Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) Taskforce Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Reference Group.
