Associate Professor Lane is currently coordinator of clinical studies and chair of the Personal and Professional Development (PPD) teaching theme for the Sydney Medical Program. Senior Staff Specialist in Intensive Care Medicine at Nepean Hospital.
He has a strong passion and decorated record for teaching, being awarded multiple local and Faculty awards for teaching excellence, and a 2016 Australian Government Citation for outstanding contribution to student learning - ‘for creating and fostering an educational environment and culture, that enhances learning by motivating students to develop a growth mindset and inspiring collegiate critical reflection.'
Associate Professor Lane's primary research interest is phenomenological analysis of human experience. He has implemented the first Intensive Care Unit (ICU) follow-up clinic in NSW, developing knowledge and theory to optimise patient experience and management, whilst they are in the ICU and beyond.
He is a part 1 and part 2 examiner for the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) and member of the national examinations panel for the CICM. He is also Chair of the NSW CICM regional committee. He is a keen swimmer and in 2017 he swam the English Channel in 2017, raising $12500 to assist research into chronic critical illness (CCI)
