Associate Professor Rachael Parke is the Nurse Senior Research Fellow in the Cardiothoracic and Vascular ICU at Auckland City Hospital. She has extensive involvement in local and international investigator initiated clinical trials and has an impressive publication and funding record.
Rachael works as Associate Professor at the University of Auckland and holds honorary positions with Monash University (Melbourne) and the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand (Wellington).
Rachael is the only non-physician to have held an elected office-bearer position within the ANZICS-CTG.
Her research interests include enhanced recovery after thoracic surgery, high flow nasal oxygen therapy, fluid management after cardiac surgery and cardiac surgery associated acute kidney injury.
She is chief investigator on a recently completed 700 patient multi-centre, study of conservative fluid administration in patients after cardiac surgery.
Rachael has co-led development of BASIC research courses for clinicians and research nurses internationally. In her spare time Rachael produces a podcast “Critical 2 Your Success” (for ICU nurses, allied health staff and students undertaking higher degrees), enjoys travelling, cooking and spending time with two adult sons and two willful Schnauzers.
