Helen Patterson

(RN/RM/NICN/NNP) Helen is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner currently working as an Educator and Associate Unit Manager in the Werribee Mercy Special Care Nursery.

She trained as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse at the Royal Women's Hospital Melbourne, and has also worked in NICU’s in the UK and USA.

As a neonatal educator at the Royal Women’s in 2006 - she worked closely with Emeritus Professor Colin Morley implementing the (at that time) new evidenced based changes to neonatal resuscitation.

She has participated in the “Obstetric Emergency

Refresher Program” in East Timor with Professors Sue McDonald & Jeremy Oates (supported by Rotary Australia).

She has recently completed a research project comparing the progress and short term outcomes of neonates receiving nasal CPAP in non-tertiary centers with a similar cohort in tertiary centers. This project has been presented at 2 international conferences and is currently awaiting publication.
